FT232RL USB to RS232 Programming Cable

A USB to serial cable built for the workbench and for embedding. The FT232R circuit board lives inside the USB connector, and the other end leaves bare tinned wires rather than a fixed plug — so you can solder, crimp or connectorise the end to suit whatever the application needs.

That bare end is why it is popular for programming and prototyping: it connects directly to a target board’s UART, to a modem, a PDA, a phone or a camera, and it can be dressed with a different connector for production. Data rates reach 1 Mbps.

Specifications

Two practical points. The bare end is at the RS232/TTL side of the FT232R, so match the logic levels to your target before you connect — and never tie the wires to a live RS232 bus without checking the voltage. And because the end is user-finished, tell us the connector you want if you prefer it terminated at the factory.
