Toslink Optical Cable, Metal Casing, Male to Male

A Toslink optical cable with a metal casing around the connector body. Because the signal travels as light down an optical fibre, there is no electrical path between the two devices — which is what makes Toslink the right choice when you want to break a ground loop or avoid hum between a digital source and a receiver.

The metal casing protects the plug and the fibre terminators, which is the part that most often gets knocked and damaged on a plastic-bodied lead. The connectors are 24K gold-plated and the cable runs to 15 ft (5 m).

Two practical points. A Toslink lead carries light, so keep it away from tight bends — a sharp kink damages the fibre and the signal drops. And because the fibre is optical, the shielding and gold plating here protect the connector body rather than the signal itself; they matter for durability, not for sound quality. If you would prefer the lower-cost moulded build, ask for the PVC version of the same cable.
