USB-C to 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Gigabit Ethernet

Two jobs, one block: three extra USB 3.0 ports for the peripherals, plus a real Ethernet socket for the network. Wired beats Wi-Fi for the things that notice latency — video calls, large uploads, long sync jobs — and this adapter gives a Type-C laptop a Gigabit RJ45 port at up to 1000 Mbps without a driver disk or a software install.

The three A ports are USB 3.0 SuperSpeed (5 Gbps) and accept USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices, so the mouse and the archive drive coexist. The Ethernet side negotiates down to 10/100 automatically for older switches and routers, and the reversible C plug goes in either way up.

Specifications

An honest pair of notes. First, 1000 Mbps is the port’s capability, not a promise: the speed you see also depends on the router, the switch and the cable — on a 100 Mbps network the adapter dutifully runs at 100 Mbps. Second, the lead that carries the hub is deliberately short, which is good for strain relief and a limitation if the desk socket is far from the laptop; a USB extension can be added if needed.
