This adapter gives them a port: USB-C male into the modern host, SATA out to the drive, and the filesystem appears as an external disk for recovery, cloning or a one-off read.
The power reality is stated plainly because it is where returns happen: 2.5-inch SSDs and HDDs run on the host’s bus power through this cable; 3.5-inch desktop drives need 12 V that USB cannot deliver and require an external power source for the drive side. Why does my 3.5-inch drive not spin up?
It needs 12 V that USB does not provide — power the drive side externally; the 2.5-inch form factor runs on bus power alone.
Does it support UASP?
Confirm your host OS and drive; where UASP is supported the link runs at drive speed, otherwise standard USB mass-storage rates apply.
