A Toslink optical cable with a metal shell, male to male: a 24K gold-plated plug at each end, an optical-fibre core and HDPE insulation, up to 5 m.
- Description
The metal-shell build of the Toslink optical lead, with a 24K gold-plated plug at each end and an optical-fibre core. The signal is carried as light, so the cable provides complete electrical isolation between source and receiver — useful wherever a ground loop between two mains-powered devices would otherwise introduce hum.
The construction is a fibre core in HDPE insulation, with aluminium-foil and braid beneath a PVC jacket that can be supplied with or without a nylon net. Standard lengths run to 15 ft (5 m).

Two notes for a good installation. Keep the run to the length you actually need — an optical lead is coiled to suit, and over-long cables are simply easier to damage. And check that your equipment uses a full-size TOSLink socket: the smaller 3.5 mm mini-Toslink plug on some laptops and portables needs a different cable.
