FTDI USB to RS485/RS422 Converter, DB9 and Terminal

A converter for RS485 and RS422 devices that connects them straight to a computer’s USB port. A high-performance processor chip and purpose-built conversion circuitry keep it stable in service, so the freezes, IO errors and driver problems that trouble cheap adapters do not appear.

It is powered from the USB port, so no external supply is needed, and the RS485/RS422 end is a standard 9-pin D-sub connector. A screw terminal board is included as an option, which makes it easy to land bare cables or single wires on the RS485 side.

Specifications

Two notes. RS485 is a two-wire half-duplex bus and RS422 is a four-wire full-duplex link — this converter handles both, so tell us which your device uses if you are unsure. And the long-distance figure is a maximum at the slowest rate: as the run shortens you can raise the speed, the usual trade of distance against bit rate on a serial bus.
