HDMI Female to VGA Converter with 3.5mm Audio

An adapter that lets an HDMI source drive a VGA-only display. The HDMI Type-A socket takes the source cable, the VGA DB15 socket feeds the monitor, projector or TV, and a 3.5mm output carries the audio to a speaker or amplifier. It is the piece that keeps a legacy VGA screen useful next to modern equipment.

The chipset is powered straight from the HDMI port — under 140 mA at 5V — so there is no power brick to find. It supports full-size active high-definition output up to 1920 x 1080, and drops into low-power standby when no VGA display is connected.

Key features

• HDMI Type-A female input, VGA DB15 female output
• 3.5mm audio output for speakers or an amplifier
• Resolution up to 1920 x 1080
• Powered from the HDMI port; no external supply
• Low-power standby when the VGA display is disconnected
• Compact body; supplied with a 3.5mm audio cable

Specifications

As with every VGA output, sound does not travel down the VGA cable; it leaves through the 3.5mm socket, which is why the adapter ships with an audio lead. Two HDMI-direction rules also apply here: the HDMI end is an input, so the source (PC, phone, tablet, console, camera) must be the HDMI device, and the display must be the VGA device.

Typical applications

• Feeding a VGA projector from an HDMI laptop or phone
• Keeping an older VGA monitor as a second display
• Training and conference rooms with mixed HDMI and VGA gear
