12V Battery and Alternator Tester With 6 LED Display

Before a battery dies on a cold morning, it usually whispers — through the alternator’s behaviour at idle and the cranking voltage dip. This tester listens to both: two clips onto the battery posts, and six LEDs (two red, three green, one yellow) present the battery state and the alternator’s charging state, with overload display included. It works across cars, motorcycles and anything else with a 12 V system, and it asks nothing of you but thirty seconds and a running engine for the alternator check.

The build is simple on purpose: 25 cm leads with two testing clips for safe, easy connection, 0.06 mm² copper wire, a good chip inside that keeps the surface from getting hot, and no sparking during connection. There is no LCD to crack, no firmware to update, no buttons to gum up — which is exactly what a tool that lives in the boot should be. Size is 12 × 5.2 × 1.8 cm, small enough for the glovebox of every vehicle you own.

Specifications

An honest note on what “LED display” means: this is a state tester — good / weak / overload bands shown by LED colour — not a numeric voltmeter. For most owners that is precisely the right level of information; if you need millivolt logging, take a proper multimeter instead.
